Hedkandi

The tag line is "Love what you see", and I do! Jereme from Hedkandi salon asked me to style this ad shot by the amazing Gerard Yunker and with creative by Brad Connell from Wax Partnership (agency). Tara Anand gave good face and the girls were gorgeous! We shot in the stinkiest bathroom at the Blackfoot truckstop, the MEN'S Bathroom to be specific. Guys kept trying to come in with Aleisia up on the counter making out with herself in the mirror and I had to keep shooing them away! Shooting on the C-train with the super sexy Ania B. with Gerard yelling directions like, "More butt!" with all the people just trying to get home after work was epically funny. The owner of the restaurant we used, Fleur de Sel, was very gracious and the wine was delicious. All in all a super fun shoot with great people.

Summer Swimwear Story

Check out the new issue of We Like We Love Magazine for our summer swimwear story! Photographer Colin Way did a beautiful job with the location and managed to make the side of the road tourist spot look like an amazing isolated desert. It had just finished raining for a week and although it looked dry there was a slick layer of clay under the surface. Mode model Steph DelAlba did a great job and was fearless when climbing the treacherous hoodoos to get into some of the locations. Teslin Ward did a beautiful job on make-up as usual and it was a fun day out in the sun. Thanks to editor and art director Alyssa Yuhas for running our story and if you would like a printed copy you can purchase the magazine here.

Here are a couple of shots for you...

Make the Girl Dance

I have been missing Paris like crazy even though I have only been there once. I want to be there all the time! So I am posting a video shot on my favorite street, Rue Montorgueil. Plus I like the song.

Saddle Up

I love the leather Brooks bicycle seat carved into plaid by Kara Ginther.

A Lesson on Perspective

I have been trying to look at things in a new way. This was produced by Charles and Ray Eames but has nothing to do with furniture. It does have everything to do with perspective though and the music is amazing.

Menswear

Starting to think about a menswear shoot I have been asked to do for September and I love the direction of this Tom Ford campaign. That guy is magic! I especially like how they are posed. Even if it is from 2009.

Chanel

Can somebody explain this Chanel couture to me please?

Nuff said.

Layering

I know it is only just summer here in western Canada but I am already thinking of fall. It's out in the stores and really, it's been so cold here that it's hard not to think about wool and leather and fur. In a way it is more of a non seasonal way of dressing that works in this climate with opportunities for layering. Here are some of my favorite layering looks for fall.

One of my favorite ways is how Marc did it at Louis Vuitton, just throw a chunky knit over a great dress! What a terrific way to use some of your summer dresses in the fall or keep warm on a cool summer evening.

I love the skinny belt Prada used with those thick sweaters.

Dries Van Noten's casual fleece with a dressy floral.

I am especially enjoying the contrast of the casual and the formal. It is a great way to work the ladylike trend without getting too prissy. If you need me I will be in my closet digging out my old chunky knit sweaters.

Prada

Looks like I will be getting some Prada socks this fall. And shoes.

And do you think these collars are sold separately?

Ladylike neutrals, a pop of color, and a whole lot of texture. I love it!

I ❤ Marc

Let me share with you the accessories trend of the season; FUR BAGS.

BEAVER BAGS!!

Everyone knows I am a sucker for fur, so holy shit, put it together with Marc Jacobs and BANG! POW! I haven't been this excited about handbags since, well, ever! Every other collection seems to have at least one in every conceivable style and skin. I will NEED to save up my money for one. The only thing I can hope is that it is too weird for everyone else and I can get one on sale! I just have to wait until JANUARY to buy one (or receive one for my birthday *hint*).

PS This Roger Vivier one is the one everyone is getting all pissy about but I think it's because it has the cute little raccoon head on it! Aw! I hope it has the tail on the back!

Lucky

Check out these horse shoes by Iris Schieferstein at the Virtual Shoe Museum.

New work

This was a shoot I did in March for my take on the spring/summer trend of underwear as outerwear and they are being shown as the banners for the Calgary Fashion site. I used vintage coats from Cat's Eye Vintage under some intimate apparel from the Bay and Holt Renfrew (don't worry there were tights on underneath!) and paired it with some beautiful Jewelry from Rubaiyat and Holt Renfrew. The colored wig epaulets were inspired by Martin Margiela and were on loan from Deva Dave and I paired it with an amazing Prada necklace. The photographers, Wilkosz + Way, used a flashlight or two to create the lighting effect. I actually helped by waving one of the flashlights around as did the make-up artist Alicjia Wilkosz; it was a real group effort! And of course I used lots of color, quel surprise, and my favorite model, Ania B!
